Ganzhou Gr
Type Locality and Naming
South and eastern Jiangxi (Ganzhou Basin). The Ganzhou Group was named by the Geological Survey Team of Jiangxi in 1969. The type locality at the Chenkeng section of Maodian in the Ganxian County of Jiangxi (115º00'18″,25º55'12″). Comprises a lower Maodian Fm and an upper Zhoutian Fm.
Lithology and Thickness
It is a group of clastic rocks. Lower part (Maodian Fm) is composed of coarse-grained clastic rocks, intercalated with basalt and volcanic clastic rocks. Upper part (Zhoutian Fm) is dominated by fine-grained clastic rocks, with gypsum interbeds.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Ganzhou Gr is unconformably overlying the volcanic units of the Huobashan Gr (Shixi Fm)
Upper contact
The Ganzhou Gr is traditionally shown as unconformably underlying the Guifeng Gr, but Li et al. (2019) conclude the Giufeng Gr is in a different basin from their Ganzhou Gr.
